Developed by Gallagher Group Limited, eShepherd is a virtual shepherd and Internet of Things (IoT) baseddigital solution which enables farmers to fence, move, or monitor their beef or dairy cattle using their smartphone. Animals wear a collar connected to a farmer’s phone or tablet via a wireless base station. The collar uses a patented CSIRO algorithm to train the animals to move or stay within a geo fence virtual boundary. Called “eShepherd", this solution enables farmers to control livestock grazing to increase production through more efficient pasture utilization, improved animal health and welfare, while reducing the cost of fencing, labour and mustering. eShepherd improves sustainability avoiding overgrazing, and providing a wildlife friendly tool to manage stock damage to waterways and national parks.
