Bhutta (Maize) App
Bangladesh
Developed jointly by Oxfam and Monash University, the Bhutta App provides advisory information on maize cultivation in riverine charland. It was developed to target women farmers in remote areas. It contains visual and audio learning content for each stage of the crop lifecycle. The content inside the app is sufficient to take measures against common disease infestations. It was developed for action research under PROTIC project among women in remote villages; 100 in each village were supplied with a smartphone. The PROTIC project team worked with isolated Bangladeshi communities to support rural women through an interactive community information service – developing technical information applications for 1) Crops, livestock and disease alerts 2) Agricultural and climate science 3) Entitlement rights and 4) Housing and health.
