Digital Solution
Climate- and market-smart mung bean advisories (CAMASMA)

country Bangladesh

Developed by International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), CAMASMA is an interactive voice response (IVR) based weather forecast advisory service for Bangladeshi farmers through SMS and voice messages. Outbound Dialer based voice messages are sent to farmers 5 days before a heavy rainfall might occur, encouraging them to harvest their mungbean if ready. It also provides general advisory services on various topics for cultivation of mungbean as well as market price data. By integrating and disseminating weather-forecast information, climate-smart advisories for when and how to harvest mung bean help farmers to mitigate some of the climate risks associated with crop production. Both mung bean farmers and traders also benefit from real-time market price data. In addition to market intelligence on where large blocks of farmers have quality mung bean for sale, CAMASMA improves information flow to lower trading firms’ transactions costs while speeding farm-gate purchase and income generation from farmers.
