Wegro
Bangladesh
Wegro is an aggregation of a person-to-person (P2P) financing model. It sources funds from individuals and institutions, such as banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs). Wegro assesses the creditworthiness of farmers and provides them with goods and inputs. They also buy back the crops, alleviating farmers’ concerns about market fluctuations and pricing. Wegro earns a commission from the profits generated by these investments at a predetermined rate. WeGro is an agri-fintech company with the motto: “Investing in Agriculture, Simplified”. It offers a mobile app platform (Android and iOS) that enables users to finance agricultural projects, including cattle, poultry, fisheries and vegetables. Wegro provides investment and guidance to smallholder farmers, helping nearly 10 million individuals who cannot access formal financing. Additionally, farmers gain access to agricultural inputs and market opportunities. All projects are insured, monitored, scrutinized and available for financiers to visit.
