Fall Armyworm Monitor
Bangladesh
The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) developed the Fall Armyworm Monitor in collaboration with Bangladesh’s Department of Agricultural Extension as part of the Fighting Back Against Fall Armyworm project, which USAID and Michigan State University support. This tool collects data on the population, incidence and severity of fall armyworms, guiding pest management decisions. The web-based tool relies on information farmers gather using smartphones in their fields. It helps agricultural development planners, extension agents and farmers make informed, integrated pest management decisions to mitigate the threat of Fall Armyworm. The Fall Armyworm Monitor has become an essential resource for government officials in assisting farmers with pest management, proving to be quite successful. This web portal efficiently collects data from the field, allowing anyone to access information on the overall infestation conditions across the country. Farmers can check the portal weekly to stay updated on the Fall Armyworm situation, infestation levels and overall field conditions.
