The mobile interface of Farmforce’s digital tool, used by field officers from PNG Agriculture Company (PNGAC), is a specialized Android app. Equipped with smartphones, these field officers digitally collect farm and farmer data, including information on farm size, geolocation, soil quality and crop activities throughout the production process –from planting to harvesting. The app targets producers and exporters of cocoa, coffee, soya, palm oil, cattle, wood and rubber. Data is gathered at various intervals during interactions with farmers. The app supports online and offline data collection, enabling field officers to work in areas with poor mobile network coverage. Once connectivity is restored, the collected data syncs to the office server. Additionally, PNGAC employs Bluetooth-enabled digital scales at cocoa procurement points, allowing field officers to input weights directly into the Farmforce app. A Bluetooth printer issues paper receipts to farmers, and the app also features barcode scanning for post-harvest traceability.
