Digital Rural Platform
China
Developed by China Unicom and applied in Shitoukeng Village, the Digital Rural Platform encompasses six major functional modules and 32 applications which support the transformation of agriculture and animal husbandry, attract young returnees for entrepreneurial endeavors, and plays an important role in digitizing rural production, ecology, and livelihoods. Under this initiative, the Greenhouse Guardian help villagers in the intelligent management of ten agricultural greenhouses while the Villagers’ Message Board provides a direct channel for feedback, promoting collaborative village development. It has led to digital rural governance, network-based service accessibility, and modernized agricultural production, contributing significantly to a safe, harmonious, civilized, and prosperous village. Farmers use Digital Rural Platform's livestock tracking device to track their cattle when they go out to graze. They can also set up electronic fences for the cattle which generates an alert on their smart phone once a cattle runs out of the designated circle. Under this initiative, electrical sensors for measuring carbon dioxide concentration, temperature and humidity are installed in the potato storage cellars connected to the Digital Rural platform created by China Unicom which helps to avoid suffocation of people inside. Every time before entering the cellar, farmers can check whether the values exceed the standard and decide whether they can enter. This avoids carbon dioxide poisoning and prevents the stored potatoes from mold and rot.
